‘As in previous years, a disproportionate number of this yearʼs pedestrians deaths have occurred in Scarborough. Local residents and road safety advocates have long warned that the districtʼs wide and busy streets encourage drivers to speed and are dangerous to pedestrians and other road users.

“These arenʼt accidents. We know they are going to happen and we know why they are happening,” said Marvin Macaraig, a health promoter and co- ordinator of Scarborough Cycles, an advocacy group for safe cycling in Scarborough.

“This is a public health issue and whatever the city is doing, itʼs not happening fast enough.”’
