Bike Host 2016 Closing Ceremonies at Children’s Peace Theatre

On October 13th, Scarborough Cycles attended the Bike Host 2016 Closing Ceremonies held at the Children’s Peace Theatre. Bike Host is a free cycling mentorship program for Convention refugees and permanent residents, created by CultureLink Settlement and Community Services. In 2016, the program is offered in partnership with the South Riverdale Community Health Centre and the Scarborough Cycles Bike Hubs at AccessPoint on Danforth and Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre.

This is the first time Bike Host has been offered in Scarborough and the response has been remarkable with over 50 participants and more than 20 mentors. Notable guests at the ceremony included Jared Kolb (Executive Director, Cycle Toronto), Nancy Smith Lea (Director, Toronto Centre for Active Transportation), Paul Young (Health Promoter, South Riverdale Community Health Centre), Janet Davis (Toronto Councillor Ward 31), and John Beers (Coordinator, Crossroads of the Danforth BIA).
