“The Bells on Kingston ride was organized by Mark Fernandez of the Toronto Community Bikeways Coalition, who has organized similar initiatives for bikeways on Bloor Street and Danforth Avenue, and Marvin Macaraig, a health promoter at Access Alliance, with the intent to push for an extension of Destination Danforth, an existing multi-use lane running down the Danforth with enhanced features, including bike lanes, that ends at Victoria Park Avenue. The group ride started just steps from this intersection.
“The enhanced pedestrian sidewalks, the environment, the separated bike lanes, it all ends at Victoria Park,” Macaraig said. “Victoria Park is just an imaginary barrier. It’s a political barrier between East York and Scarborough, so it’s not fair.””
